...I mean, I think it was only Kumopi who did in the prism? Preeeetty sure the rest of us watched, since we were responsible for voting for them and all... but it stressed Kumopi out a lot, so it was better that he didn't.

[he nods]

Yeah, I get that... It feels worse not to watch when you helped it get to that point, but - I bet the people who are involved up there wish nobody was watching, at the same time.

I'm, like, ninety-nine percent sure they did. The thing about the prism's executions is that a lot of what happened in there was very personal stuff - conversations they'd had with someone else, memories of their lives before the prism, stuff like that... All sorts of things that would distress someone until they couldn't go any further.

It helped us understand them a little better, I guess, but... it still felt wrong for us to see.

[he makes a face at the thought.]

Jeez... You mean, using things that'd happened to them before against them, and letting everyone watch?

Yep. Things that happened to them before and during their stay in the prism were all broadcasted for us. Sometimes we'd get to feel what they felt, too.

It didn't feel right, learning things about them that way. It's better to hear it from the person themselves.

[he nods.]

I get why at least one of you decided not to watch, then. That's horrible.

It didn't stop him from feeling everything, but it made it a little easier for him, at least. I don't want to say he's, like, delicate, but he def took it way harder than anyone.

Yeah. Some people need to be protected a little bit more than others, right?

Mm... and Kumopi is def one of those people.

You two must be really close. I bet he's glad he has someone like you looking out for him.

We weren't always, but we only had each other when we first got to the prism, you know? It was easier to stick together.

[ a soft laugh. ]

I bet he'd want his brother more, but I do what I can. I just hope they're treating him and the other hostages well while we're here.

[he blinks.]

Oh - he's the person you came here for?

Yep. If it's really him and not some illusion, he's probably really scared, so I hope they're not, like, keeping them in a dungeon or something. They should at least have nice rooms like we do, you know?

Mm... When I talked to the staff, they said the person I'm here for was safe, so - hopefully safe also implies comfortable.

Fingers crossed! But there's no reason for them not to be, IMO.

It kind of feels like there's no reason for a lot of this to be happening in the first place, but - yeah. You're right. So, fingers crossed.

You aren't wrong. "Entertainment" is one thing, but... I don't know. It's not entertainment if real people are getting hurt.

It shouldn't be to anybody who's decent, at least. It's pretty clear whoever orchestrated this isn't decent, though.

Mm... It sounds like a lot of people who came here were doing just fine at home, or even better than they were before. To take that away... it's kind of cruel, isn't it?

And even for people who weren't... If they had the ability to bring us all here, they could have brought us to somewhere safe and peaceful while we tried to figure out what to do next. There's no excuse for this place being the way it is.

No, there's not. [ sighs. ] I wonder if there's another reason for it that we just don't know of. There's got to be something, right?

[he frowns, thoughtful.]

...I'm not sure what kind of reason could justify this. Sometimes - the reason for bad things happening is just that somebody is cruel and doesn't care who suffers as long as they aren't hurt.

I don't know, either. But... I don't know. I want to believe it isn't all bad.

[after a moment, he nods.]

I don't think it's all bad, either. But... I think that the parts that are good have more to do with us than with whoever organized all of this.
