Compelled? By what? Like he was refracting, or... something else?

He described it as a shadow. Something using his own impulses against him, something external.

But it does not seem akin to refraction, as he was able to simply... allow himself to die, as much as possible.

That's true. I wonder how that would hold up if we hadn't voted for him, though. If it's not refracting, it can't be as bad as turning into giant rainbow creatures, right?
