Well, at first, we didn't know. But then we found this room with life support pods on the fifth floor, and there they were.

Life support pods...? Does that mean they weren't actually dead?

No, I'm pretty sure they were dead. Otherwise, they wouldn't have had to crawl their way out of the great beyond.
