That's fair... They all seem pretty relaxed, for the most part.

I can agree with that. The residents seem to be convinced that there is no other home, though. That's the strangest thing, but it makes sense if something about this place has been affecting their minds. ...But it's a little scary to think about something like that, if I'm honest.

[ feels great to be an artist again! as of yesterday, there's a canvas with a full sketch prepped in the art room, and today, kazunari is mixing some paint to get started. ]

Indeed I am. Although I should warn you my budding career has faced a severe downgrade in quality, since the week started.

[At least November seems to be a decent sport about it, although truthfully he's a tad disappointed he lost all of the artistic skill he had felt a bit boastful about. Alas]

[ he laughs, not unkindly. ]

NBD, my man! Art isn't about being perfect all the time, anyway! You just have to follow the vibes and do what feels right, and if you're happy doing it, it'll still show through!

I have never been good at 'following the vibes', Kazunari.

[It's a curious thing, how someone who seems to be so easygoing sometimes also can be so rigid at times]

No better time to learn than now! You do have to be careful with oil paints, though - those guys take a while to dry, so if you don't want certain colors to bleed, you'll hvae to take it slow.

[ toooo the rooftop, where kazunari is drawing in his sketchbook! he gives november a little wave. ]

Hey. Thanks for trying to keep Fenty out of that whole thing, in trial. Sometimes that kid really worries me.

[Hey there, Kazunari.

November had seen Kazunari a moment earlier, and had left without saying a word. Now that he was back, he just tossed a can of baja blast mountain dew at him again. Is he just going to keep tossing this stuff at Kazunari every time he sees him? Who knows]

Danny is too impulsive for his own good. Someone has to rein him in -- and of course he'll get upset at anyone trying to.

[It really makes November glad he can have a 100% objective thought process, with no emotion. Seeing what others do when their emotions get involved is a reminder Contractors are lucky on this regard, in his opinion]

[ damn okay. he's absolutely not expecting this, so he barely blocks it from hitting him, fumbles the can, and barely manages to catch it. ]

You told me to bring you some next time we talked, in case you don't remember. [He flashes a grin] Welcome back to being your usual self once again.

[ well it's not like he can open it now after almost dropping it, so he just. sets it down on the table. ]

...Are you used to this kind of thing? I remember that you said you were a spy before.

In a way, yes. Although nobody I have worked with since a decade ago are like most people here. It's difficult to plan accordingly when something unexpected could happen because someone may act differently to what I expect.

[He's a Contractor, working alongside Contractors, to fight against Contractors. Everyone involved is methodical, rational, and free from any guilt or conscience. Not to say they're unfeeling -- heck, November is no bleeding heart but he's far more pleasant than most of his kind -- but given their way of thinking, predicting moves and taking action comes easy.

Here it doesn't, because everyone is...unpredictable. Not only they're not Contractors, they're not even in criminal organizations, or in law enforcement -- professions he's routinely working with or outsmarting, or both when it's law enforcements]

Hah... Yeah, you did say you're used to considering everything, didn't you? And everything going on here is really crazy... I think it would be more surprising if you could predict any of it, with how little information we have.

[ back to their favorite hangout: the art room. kazunari is busy at work here, hands already covered in paint, but he looks up as november enters to offer a faint smile. ]

Hey. Still trying to tap into your inner artist, Novimi?

If it's difficult for me I imagine it's even harder for others, less used to death and mayhem as I am.

[Which includes Kazunari, really, as far as he knows]

[November, who has been staring at the canvas, seems to find the question hilarious]

Yes. Unfortunately the inner artist refuses to come. I don't know how others manage to paint anything at all.

...I wish I could explain it better. It's always been kind of easy for me, since I first started. It helps me think.

How did you get started with this, then? Tell me about that.

[Logic states that what worked for others perhaps will work for him. In the end November is still almost a total beginner, so he asks that question, yup]

Oh, um.

[ what he's working on... seems to be a japanese castle, with several people in colorful outfits on a path heading toward it. ]

It's... the characters in the last play I did. Closing night was right before we got here, so I was missing home, and that's the first sketch I came up with.

I don't know much about art, but I think it's good.

You do have the right skills for this. Nice job.

Thanks! I worked pretty hard to get them. For all that people say art is about having talent, it's really not true... You have to have the technical skills, too.

[ he gives november a thoughtful look. ]

You said you have a hard time not thinking about things, right? So maybe that's what you need to do, if you want to keep trying to make art - try to focus on the technical things first.

...You're probably right. There's not much we can do but try to get used to it, though, is there?

...I hadn't considered that.

[Huh. Maybe he was taking the wrong approach. Perhaps, by focusing on the theory behind how to paint, he could actually do something. The technical skills should come easier for him, no? If so, then...maybe he could actually paint]

At this point it's worth a try. I haven't made much progress doing anything else so far.

Try not to get used to it. This is not the sort of thing you want to get used to.

[Somehow, November has grown fond of a number of people here. Definitely not enough to, like, give his life for them or anything like that -- but enough to appreciate them as they are. It'd be a shame to see that marred by this bloody experience]

There are tons of books in the library you could look into! Maybe look up perspective drawing, color theory, lighting... oh, and the golden ratio. The last one's a little more advanced, but it should help you figure out how to structure your compositions, once you get there.
