[ that mod update left a huge crack in the calm that kazunari was trying very hard to hold onto, so he's off in the art room after execution, with a new set of canvases out. on one, there's a loose sketch of a man with glasses sitting before an easel. on another, a young woman with a bright smile.
the third is the one he's focusing on right now, adding more detail. in this sketch, a boy with a familiar haircut leans against a fence, with a second figure next to him, and a third on his other side. they seem to be on a hill, facing out toward the sky, where kazunari flicks his pencil to draw bursts of fireworks -
and pauses to glance over his shoulder, as he hears kashuu. there's a small smile, but it's full of sorrow. ]
I guess it was a long shot to hope for the same thing to happen, huh?
[Kashuu approaches, and the emotions he exudes are somber and solemn, but not oppressively so. It's like a respectful feeling of remorse for those they lost, rather than a crushing blanket enveloping everything. He'll sit nearby, giving the pictures a look as he talks. There's a little flicker of an emotion - something like regret. A different heaviness.]
...Yeah. I heard last night that Shale didn't think there would be a repeat of that. He doesn't think something like that will happen again.
[Which, haha! Wow. Yeah, that had been a hard pill to swallow. At least he'd been able to go into this with that knowledge, but he feels for everyone who hadn't heard as much in time.]
I know it was optimistic, but I still wanted to believe it could...

Yeah, that's true. And we know what sorts of things to look out for now, so... we just have to keep our eyes open to find them. The real hurdle is figuring out how to help them before it's too late.
[They're pretty much on the same wavelength there. He's not bitter about Percy's survival - far from it, really. But when their options seem continually shaved down, and their miracles seem to be running out, it's hard not to hurt for those who weren't saved.

...We have to help her. I don't know how, but... we have to.
[What a mood! He'd felt pretty much the same the night before, when he'd first started suspecting her after speaking to her in the aftermath of the trial. He'll reach out, resting a hand lightly and gently against Kazu's arm for a moment.]
